Petropavlovsk participates in the worldwide environmental action “Hour of the Earth – 2009”

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. December, 17. VOSTOK- MEDIA. – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky became the first Russian official participant of the worldwide action of ecologists “Hour of the Earth-2009”. The Russian branch of WWF and authorities of Primorskiy Krai signed an agreement on cooperation in the plan development and conducting of the action at December, 8.
During the international action “the Hour of the Earth-2009” the electricity in the accommodation units would be switched off. This action is scheduled on March, 28, 20:30 to 21:30, local time. Thousand of cities of 62 countries of the world will take part.
The aim of this action is to attract public attention to the issue of environmental protection and decrease in gas emission into the atmosphere.
This action was first held at Sidney in March, 2007. It became worldwide on March, 2008. More than 50 millions of people in more than 270 cities switched off the light for one hour. The list of participants includes Capetown, Chicago, Moscow, Copenhagen, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Manila, Mexico, Oslo, Rome, Singapore and so on
