Russian Far East and Hokkaido Deepening Ties
Permanent Commission for Economic Cooperation between Hokkaido and Russian Far East held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. February 18. VOSTOK MEDIA – The 14th plenary session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Russian Far East and Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture was held today in Yuzhno-Sakhalisk.
Kondo Mitsuo, vice governor of Hokkaido, said the most north prefecture of Japan pays deep attention to development of relations with Russian regions. The Special Russian branch of the department for trade and industry has been functioning in the prefecture’s administration since 90s.
The members of the commission discussed the issues of possible changes in conditions for business activities in Russia after its accession to the WTO, exchanges of information and specialists in the field of environmental protection. The development of tourism was called an important factor in development of the Russian Far East-Hokkaido relations as well.
