The Bears Started to Wake up from Hibernation in Southern Kuril Islands

UZHNO-SAKHALINSK. March 18. VOSTOK-MEDIA - The bears started to wake up from the hibernation in Southern Kuril Islands.
According to Vladimir Teplov, the state forestry inspector of Uzhno-Kuril forest district the first prints of predator were detected in Kunashir on Saturday. The prints indicate that it is 3-4 year old. The bear crossed the road Uzhno-Kurilsk-Golovnino.
For Southern Kuril Islands the beginning of March is usual time for awakening of the animals.
There are about 100 brown bears in Kunashir. In the springtime they hardly pose any hazard to a human. Usually they eat relics of last years’ salmons, fir-needles, twigs and field voles.
