VLADIVOSTOK. 18 October. VOSTOK-MEDIA. On Friday, October, 17, a new IELTS Centre was opened in Vladivostok.
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. Students who wish to study or work abroad and people immigrating into the English-speaking countries have to take the IELTS exam.
Opening of the new IELTS centre in Vladivostok became real due to joint efforts of the Consulate General of Australia and Students International Centre. Students International General Director, Oleg Stepanenko, said the number of students going to study or work abroad was increasing every year. The Russian Far East is as active as the central part of Russia. Though, before the new IELTS centre in Vladivostok people had to go to Moscow or Saint-Petersburg to take the exam. It was too expensive from the financial point of view. Now everyone does not have to go to Moscow or Saint-Petersburg to take the exam and receive an internationally recognized certificate.
Presentation of the IELTS exam was given by the Regional Manager IELTS Australia Mary Lou Hayman. Ms. Mary Lou explained in detail the format of exam, criteria of evaluation and importance of the international language certificate which is recognized in more than 120 countries and 6 000 companies.
According to Ms. Mary Lou, the main feature of the exam system is that it evaluates the communicative abilities of a person. Considering a goal of traveling abroad people have to take either academic test (for purpose of study) or general test (for immigration purposes). Test consists of 4 parts: listening, writing, reading and oral task. As Ms. Mary Lou said the oral part can be the most difficult as reflects the actual abilities of a person to communicate in the foreign language.
The nearest exam date is October, 6. Registration before October, 31.
