Major International Journalists’ Forum Opens in Khabarovsk

The forum brought together Russia’s leading reporters and representatives of major news outlets from across Russia, Japan, Turkey, France and Italy.

KHABAROVSK. October 18. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The International Journalists’ Forum “Russian Far East. Discoveries of the 21st Century” has opened in Khabarovsk earlier today.

Addressing the forum, Chairman of the Russian Journalists Union Vsevolod Bogdanov said that Russia’s Far East has always been under the spotlight of the Russian media. “Once again the time has come to focus on the pressing problems of the Russian Far East,” he said.

The forum brought together Russia’s leading reporters and representatives of major news outlets from across Russia, Japan, Turkey, France and Italy.

Presidential envoy to the Russian Far East Viktor Ishayev greeted the participants on behalf of President Dmitry Medvedev and thanked them for attending the forum.

“We are looking forward to providing you with a closer look at the Russian Far East and the opportunities it offers, Ishayev said.”

Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has also sent a greeting letter to the participants in the event.

Speaking in the first plenary session, Deputy Envy to the Russian Far East Vladimir Syrkin told the audience about the promising projects underway in the Russian Far East. Khabarovsk Krai Governor Vyacheslav Shport, Amur Region Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, Yakutia Vice-President Dmitry Glushko gave a detailed overview of the far eastern regions.

Also speaking at the forum will be presidential adviser Mikhail Fedotov, editor of the Izvestiya daily Vitaly Abramov, editor of the Literaturnaya Gazeta weekly Yuri Polyakov as well as the local business community. All sessions are chaired by the Chairman of the Russian Journalists’ Union Vsevolod Bogdanov and a State Duma Deputy Boris Reznik.
