For more than 6 years ecologists have used space surveys in the expeditions and anti-poacher missions
VLADIVOSTOK. 18 November. VOSTOK-MEDIA. Space surveys are used to control changes in the forest areas; ecologists backtrace forest cutting off, illegal timber plants, tracks of timber transferring and other infrastructure objects.




Due to space surveys, 2000 saw the analysis of the Far Eastern forests and exceptionally valued forests, protection of which is the main concern of the WWF. Space pictures allow ecologists control illegal cut off, such as backed cut off, lessening river and streams tree plantations, areas of deforestation, and etc.


For 6 years ecologists from the WWF have used pictures in the expeditions and anti-poacher missions. As specialists from the WWF Far Eastern Division say, due to space pictures ecologists could be able to mark areas of recent cut off on the territory of the national park “Zov Tigra” in February, 2008.


Besides, 2007 saw space monitoring of grey whales living area near Sakhalin. Ecologists controlled if the ships and vessels did not violate the boundaries of the whale sanctuary in the Okhotskiy sea. While monitoring, specialists revealed an oil spill. Necessary actions were taken to localize the spill and prevent harmful consequences.
