SOVETSKAYA GAVAN. December 18. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Legends of Sovgavan Land photo exhibit has opened in Nikolay Boshnyak Local History Museum. The exhibition that tells visitors about Koppi River was organized by Bachinsky State Nature Reserve in collaboration with Khabarovsk Wildlife Foundation.

Koppi River is the largest artery in Sovetskaya Gavan, Khabarovsk Krai. Back in the 1930s, Vladimir Arsenyev, a well-known Russian explorer and writer has noted the unique features of the river basin remarkable for the great variety of flora and fauna. There are various species of plant and animal life sporadically distributed between the northern and southern parts of Ussuriisk taiga.

The water in the Koppi River takes its origin at the eastern part of Sikhote-Alin mountain range. Meandering its way towards the Tatar Strait, the river is fed by the tributaries of Dzhausa, Dyakoma, Byapoli, Topty, Iggu and Yoli. The 219-km long river disgorges into the Andreya Bay 60 km to the south of Sovetskaya Gavan. There are 25 fish species living in the river. Among them are grayling, char, Sakhalin char, Pacific redfin, Sakhalin taimen, Siberian salmon and other species.
