‘Center for Victims of Human Trafficking Assistance’ Opens in Vladivostok

The uniqueness of this center was marked by representatives of U.S. law-enforcement agencies and worldwide government organizations

VLADIVOSTOK. February 19. VOSTOK-MEDIA - ‘Victims of Human trafficking Assistance Center’ was opened in Vladivostok designed for 6 persons.
Svetlana Bazhenova, chief executive of Far Eastern Center for Development of Civic Initiative and Social Partnership that for the last 15 years the Far East of the Russian Federation, Vladivostok in particular became the region of transit and beginning of human trafficking with aim of labor exploitation and sexual abuse. To fight with human trafficking in the Far Eastern region the International Organization for Migration(IOM) set a goal to create ‘Victims of Human trafficking Assistance Center’ in Vladivostok. The project is financed by U.S. Bureau of State Department regarding international anti-drug actions and law enforcement.
Today in Russia there are 21 centers (including social service center of Primorskiy Krai) for assistance for women who got into trouble.
During the opening ceremony of the ‘Victims of Human trafficking Assistance Center’ Tom Armbooster, consul general of the U.S. consulate general in Vladivostok stated that the creation of the center became possible thanks to close cooperation of the USA and Russia.
For 6 months the Center will be operating as a part of the project financed by the State Department of the USA. Its work will be coordinated by IOM and ‘Far Eastern Center’. And after 6 months the Administration of Primorskiy Krai will take upon the coordination of the Center.
