Vladivostok is the First Sister Town of Wonsan, North Korea

VLADIVOSTOK. June 19. VOSTOK-MEDIA – In the nearest future Vladivostok will become sister city of Wonsan, large port city in North Korea. At present terms of the Sister Cities agreement are being finalized, reported press service of Vladivostok city Administration.


The agreement was discussed at the meeting between Vladivostok mayor deputy Alexander Zubritsky and Consul General of Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea in Nakhodka SIM Guk Ryon. Vladimir Zakharov, advisor to mayor of Vladivostok, Vyacheslav Kushnarev, Head of Department of International Relations and Tourism and DPRK Consul in Nakhodka Lee Sok-Son took part in the meeting.


“Vladivostok and DPRK has been in friendly relationships for many years” – said Alexander Zubovitsky, “and these relationships are strengthened by public diplomacy – exchange of cultural delegations, organization of joint concert programmes as well as internships of lecturers and students of universities. Russkiy Mir Foundation, recently opened its center in the capital of North Korea, plays a key role in the process of development of humanitarian relations. In light of this, the final arrangements for conclusion of the ‘Sister Cities’ Agreement between Vladivostok and Wonsan is of particular importance. ”


In the nearest future Vladivostok will become the first Sister City of this large N Korean port, which is the center of ship building industry, fish processing, public health care and education. Wonsan is situated in two-and-a-half hours drive from Pyongyang and is the second largest city of DPRK. The majestic Memorial to Soviet Warriors located in the center of Wansan is a tribute to the memory of glorious soldiers who laid down their lives in 1945 in the battle for the liberation of Korea.


The participants of the business meeting have discussed details of the oncoming visit of Vladivostok delegation to DPRK In the framework of drawing up and conclusion of the ‘Sister Cities’ agreement. The delegation will consist of state officials, representatives of the Far Eastern National University and creative teams.
