Vladivostok Airport to Become Largest Air Hub in the Russian Far East

Presentation of the Vladivostok Airport development project was held in the framework of the international real estate conference and exhibition event MIPIM Asia.

VLADIVOSTOK. November 19. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Vladivostok Airport development project was presented to the investment community. Dmitry Kalinin, Deputy Director General in charge of Economics and Finance of Sheremetyevo International Airport, told about the future of the largest air hub in the Russian Far East. The presentation was held in the framework of the international real estate conference and exhibition event MIPIM Asia, which is held in Hong Kong on November 18 through 20.


In the framework of MIPIM Asia event, RF Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Primorsky Krai Administration with the participation of Sheremetyevo Airport have organized “Invest in Russia. Vladivostok 2012” joint showcase of major investment projects to be implemented in the preparation for APEC-2012 summit, press center of Sheremetyevo International Airport reported. At the conference Dmitry Kalinin presented Vladivostok Airport development project, which is one of the key projects in the preparation for APEC summit.


Speaking on the project, Dmitry Kalinin stated the strategic aim of Sheremetyevo Airport is to create the largest air hub in the Russian Far East on the base of the Vladivostok Airport. Implementation of this project will boost air travelling among the resident of the Far East, increase mobility of population, contribute to regional infrastructure development and decrease unemployment. Spearheaded by Sheremetyevo Airport, Vladivostok Airport will be turned into a large international aviation node, which will facilitate social and economic development in the region and will help to fully implement Russia’s transit potential.


According to D. Kalinin, the project presentation was a success. A number of world biggest institutional investors expressed their willingness to participate in the project.


Renovation of Vladivostok airport is carried out by Sheremetyevo International Airport, which has come to own 52.2% of its shares by Presidential decree.


The airport development project provides for the construction of the new passenger terminal, which will be more than 47,000 sq. meters in area will be capable of 3.5 millions passengers yearly. According to the preliminary estimate the total volume of the capital investment will amount to USD 175 mio.


Designing and preconstruction of the new passenger terminal is carried out by the Germany-based Hochtief AG construction company. Energy-saving technologies and materials complying with the highest ecological standards will be used in the construction of the new terminal.


The international real estate conference and exhibition event MIPIM Asia is held in Hong Kong, China, and is one of the largest industry-oriented events in Asia-Pacific Region. Every year more than 300 companies and 2 thousand experts from all over the world take part in MIPIM Asia.


Vladivostok international Airport is situated 4.5 km from the city of Artem and 38 km from Vladivostok. In 1992, Vladivostok became an international airport.


In 2008 passenger traffic flow of Vladivostok international Airport totaled some 1.1 millions passengers. In H1 2009, Vladivostok airport has serviced 402,000 passengers. During years of Soviet era prosperity the airport serviced more than 2 mln passengers annually. Sheremetyevo Airport set out to reach and surpass this figure.


Rebuilding of the airport is aimed at step-by-step transformation of Vladivostok international Airport to transit airport, air hub of the Asia-Pacific Region.
