New Public Holiday to be Introduced in Russia

The Russian Government proposes to commemorate the baptism of the Rus.

VLADIVOSTOK. March 22. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A new public holiday will be introduced in Russia. It will be celebrated on July 28, the day on which the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates equal-to-the-apostles Prince Vladimir.


The national holiday is proposed to celebrate the baptism of the Rus, which took place in 988 at the initiative of Vladimir I of Kiev, Pravda.ru daily wrote.


The Ministry of Culture submitted a document proposing amendments to the Law “About the Days of War Glory of Russia” to State Duma Friday, according to the daily. The festive events will be funded from the federal budget. In Ukraine, the July 28 has for several years now been celebrated as public holiday.
