Annual Tiger Population Census is Underway in Russian Far East

The Siberian tiger is rarely seen in taiga.

VLADIVOSTOK. December 22. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The annual tiger population assessment is underway in the Russian Far East, the Amur branch of the WWF-Russia told RIA Vostok-Media.


To count the tiger population in the Russian Far East experts set special camera traps in the forest and trace their footprints.


The previous census of tiger population showed that there are more than 500 tigers in the Russian Far East. People happen to see tiger not more frequently than once in two years, because the tiger is a very cautious animal that leads a solitary way of life.
