Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok Arrived on Sakhalin

The visit of Sylvia Etian will last till December 24.

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. December 22. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok Sylva Etian has arrived on a working visit to Sakhalin Region.


Yesterday, she held a meeting with Vadim Rokotov, a Chairman of the Committee on International, foreign economic and interregional relations of Sakhalin Region.


Ms. Etian expressed her gratitude to Sakhalin Region Administration for holding Russian American Pacific Partnership annual meetings as well as for according a warm welcome to Neighborliness Jazz Quartet in April this year.

Sylva Etian stated that the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok will continue to provide assistance in organization of tours of American bands in Russia.


At present, the U.S. Consulate General is considering the proposal of Sakhalin Region to invite the United States Navy Band in Sakhalin in 2010 to play during 65th anniversary of the end of the World War II. In 2010 Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk will host a parade of military bands to mark the anniversary. Central Military Band of the Russian Ministry of Defense has already confirmed its willingness to participate in the upcoming event. Mr. Rokotov said that Sakhalin Region Administration will accord a warm welcome to the American military band.


During her visit to Sakhalin Region, which will last till December 24, Ms. Etian plans to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with a number of local cultural institutions and media outlets as well as to organize cultural and educational exchanges between the USA and Sakhalin region. On December 24, the public Affairs Officer will participate in the Ice Fantasy festival as a jury member, the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok told RIA Vostok-Media.
