The opera is adapted from the Patrick Süskind’s best seller “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.”

The rock-opera Perfumer of Igor Demarin will be presented at the stage of the Khabarovsk City Platinum Arena. The opera was adapted from the Patrick Süskind’s novel “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”, Vostok Media reports.
The People’s Artist of the USSR Vladislav Piavko, Honored Artist of Russia Valeriy Yaremenko, singers Victoria Morozova-Makarskaya and Natalya Fateyeva, a guitar player Dmitriy Chetvergov and other actors will play on the stage accompanied by the Far Eastern Symphonic Orchestra.
The idea of staging the musical on the base of the Süskind’s novel, which filmed version was screened in Russia in Autumn of 2007, occurred to the Demarin’s mind in 1999 when the famous Russian composer first read the book. He was impressed not only by the “musicalness” of the novel but also by its very concept that seemed to him not just “the story of a murderer”, but the story of the creativity.
The work over the rock-opera was begun that year. The libretto for the future musical was written by the playwright Yuri Rybchinsky. The fantastic work was finished in December of 2006.
Patrick Süskind positively spoke of the musical.
“I talked directly to Süskind through his Swiss agency. He liked my music”, - Demarin said.
