The RF Government Bans Import of Japanese and U.S. Cars

VLADIVOSTOK. March 23. VOSTOK-MEDIA – For some Russian bureaucrats and deputies of the State Duma it is not enough that car import taxes increased significantly. It turned out that a new bill is actively discussed at the State Duma: the prohibition on import of cars made in Japan and USA.
According to the newspaper ‘Vedomosti’, the suggestion to ban import of cars that do not meet national safety requirements has been already made. Thus, according to the new regulation (it has not been yet passed, but it’s just a matter of time), the clear-cut requirements for lighting technology and view from the driver’s seat will be defined. It means that there will not be direct prohibition on Japanese right side steering control cars. They will rather put in such requirements to visibility, that right side steering cars will not meet them.
And requirements to lighting technology will just deal a fatal blow to U.S. secondhand cars, because there are other requirements to the lighting technology in the United States. It should be noted that people’s deputies plan to prohibit only the first registration of vehicles that fall out of technical requirements. And this measure doesn’t refer to the right side steering control cars that were already imported.
As to the Russian Far East, where the majority of cars has always been Japanese ones, the import decreased in 4.4 times for the last two months.
