State Support for Poor Families from Sakhalin

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. June 23. VOSTOK-MEDIA - Department for Social Protection for Sakhalin Oblast has commenced to take up applications for assistance in purchasing all necessary school supplies for children.


The monetary payments are made in the framework of the regional special-purpose programme ‘Social assistance for low-income citizens residing in Sakhalin Oblast for 2008-2010’.


The monetary payment for purchasing school supplies, clothes and shoes comes to 2500 per child annually. As a comparison, in 2005 the maximum amount of annual material assistance for preparation of children for school was one thousand rubles per child. The total amount of funds allocated from the regional budget for these purposes in 2009 makes up 10 million rubles.


Such payments are made in favor of individuals upon request; in order to apply one has to address to regional offices of Department for Social Protection in June and July, 2009. Besides, all necessary information may be obtained through helplines ‘On rendering assistance to school-age children from low-income families’. The helplines are already operating in the regions of Kurilsk, Nevelsk and Tomari and within a course of a month will commence to operate in all municipalities.
