BLAGOVESHCHENSK. November 23. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Reindeer Peoples photo exhibition has opened in Blagoveshchensk Museum of Local Lore. The exhibit featuring more than 70 photographs gives an insight into the everyday life of the Evenks, a Tungusic people of Northern Asia.

“I wanted to show the life of Evenks from within. Also I wanted to show that they are not just some ignorant, savage people. They have a civilization of their own and they are wise people. Their wisdom reveals itself in details, which have evolved through time and are the subject of ethnical studies,” Evgenia Voronkova, a participant at the exhibition, says. According to the organizers of the event, the aim of the photo exhibition is not only to provide an insight into the culture of the indigenous people but also to raise awareness of the problems o the Evenks. The destruction of the natural landscape by gold mining is one of the most pressing issues.

The exhibition will then go on tour across the Amur River Region and will be shown to the Evenks themselves, Amur.info news website reports. Residents of Blagoveshchensk are welcome to visit the exhibition which will be held until December 14.
