Jewish-themed Play and Musical to be Staged in Birobidzhan
The new play is expected to be staged in 2012, on the day of the 75-anniversary of foundation of Birobidzhan.
BIROBIDZHAN. February 24. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Actors at the Birobidzhan-based Kogelet Folk Music Theatre are preparing to stage a new play based on Efraim Sevela’s novella “Monya Tsatskes”, Birobidzhanskaya Zvezda daily wrote. The new play is expected to be staged in 2012, on the day of the 75-anniversary of foundation of Birobidzhan.
Konstantin Melesov, the theatre director, said some of Moscow theatres had tried to stage the novella but failed. Konstantin Melesov, however, is not afraid of staging the play, which is based on the controversial book on the Great Patriotic War.
Naum Livant, a well-known composer in Birobidzhan, had conceived the idea to create a musical about the foundation of the Jewish Autonomous Region. The idea to create the musical was * by his “Song of the First Settlers”.
The central characters in the musical will be such famous poets as Lyuba Vasserman, Emmanuil Kazakevich, Buzi Olevsky and Itsik Fefer. The composer plans to time the musical to coincide with the 75-Anniversary of Birobidzhan.
