One-Man Picket Staged against Mayor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. May 24. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Last Saturday a Sakhalin resident staged a one-man picket near the Oktybr movie theatre. The picketer was wearing a mask of the Yuzho-Sakhalinsk Mayor and holding a sign that blamed low quality of city roads on him.

The protester, who did no want to disclose his name, said that under current laws one-man pickets do not require any authorization from local officials and that’s why he had not encountered any problems with law enforcers, Sakhalin-Kurily reported.

The man was handing out leaflets to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk residents with criticism leveled at the mayor, in particular with disapproval of the low-quality and costly road repairs.

In addition, the picketer said that this protest action was not the last one and that he would hold a series of similar protests to raise awareness about other problems in the community.
