Fyodor Konyukhov was allowed to choose a diocese of ordination.

VLADIVOSTOK. May 24. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Renowned Russian traveler Fyodor Konyukhov, who has lived in Primorye for many years, will be ordained a deacon this week.

Fyodor Konyukhov has always been a deeply committed Christian and as a boy, he wore a crucifix around his neck. He has recently filed an application with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for taking orders as deacon. In April, Patriarch approved the application granting him the right to choose a diocese of ordination.

The 58-year-old traveler chose to be ordained in his native Zaporozhye, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported.

“When Fyodor Konyukhov arrived here last summer, the Patriarch discussed with him these issues,” a spokesman for Zaporozhye diocese said. “He often visits this place and his parents are living here. We expect Vladimir, Metropolitan of Kiev, to arrive on May 22. The traveler is likely to be ordained a deacon by Vladimir. Konyukhov does not want to advance further in the hierarchy. This rank wouldn’t restrict him from traveling. He would receive blessing and set ut on a voyage.”

The Konyukhov’s son backed his decision saying he has been preparing to become a deacon for a long time. “He planed out his life this way: 30 years for active learning, next 30 years – traveling, and then service to God,” the traveler’s son said. “But it doesn’t mean that he will give up traveling.”
