‘Hour of the Earth’ in Kamchatka
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy was the first city that joined the global-scale action
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKIY. March 25. VOSTOK-MEDIA – On March 28, 20:30 local time, about one million people around the world will switch off the light for one hour to show awareness of global climate change.
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy became the first Russian official participant of the action. The administration of Petropavlovsk concluded a cooperation agreement with Russian branch of WWF on December 8, 2008. At date, about 100 countries joined the most popular action in human history.
The action will be held for the third time. In 2008, people from 370 cities of 35 countries supported ‘Hour of the Earth’. This year more than 1000 world largest cities, including Cape Town, Chicago, Moscow, Copenhagen, Dubai, Hong-Kong, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Lisbon, London, Los-Angeles, Manilla, Mexico, Nashville, Oslo, Rome, San Francisco, Singapore, Sidney, Toronto, Warsaw and many other cities will participate in the action.
The administration of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy calls all residents of the city and the region to join to the global action, aimed at stabilization of the climate, and to switch the light off just for one hour: on march 28; from 20:30 till 21:30 local time.
