Vladivostok Traffic Police spokesman said so far in 2010 has been a total of 336 car-pedestrian accidents in Vladivostok.

VLADIVOSTOK. October 25. VOSTOK-MEDIA – In 2010, Vladivostok has seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities rate.

Vladivostok Traffic Police spokesman Viktor Gamzin told the Vostok-Media that in 2010 there has been a total of 336 car-pedestrian accidents in Vladivostok.

There were ninety-four accidents that are blamed on pedestrians themselves, in which 53 sustained severe injuries and 7 died. Careless road crossing is said to be the basic cause of car/pedestrian collisions - fourteen jaywalkers sustained severe injuries and two others were killed.

“These figures indicate how desperately we need raising pedestrian safety awareness among motorists, bicyclists, and, most of all, pedestrians through various approaches including education, enforcement, and engineering solutions,” said Viktor Gamzin.
