Khabarovsk Proposes New Russian-Chinese Transport Route

KHABAROVSK. March 26. VOSTOK MEDIA – The Economic Council under the Governor of the Khabarovsk Krai discussed the project of a transport route “Harbin – Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island – Vanino” yesterday.
The new transport route can give a boost to the export-oriented Heilongjiang province and Russian business. According to the estimates of the project’s designers shipping of container cargos from Heilongjiang to Japan would require only 4 days and only a week to ship it to the Pacific coast of the United States. The supplies to South Korea, Southeast Asia and Southern China would be expedited as well.
The project is more opportune taking into account the workload of Chinese seaports which are unable to master transshipment of cargos: trains and sea vessels wait in queues for 15-20 days.
The Russian government and companies have already started to develop the Vanino trade-industrial hub. Significant sums of money are invested into construction of moorings, broadening the capacity of the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur railways.
