Public Opinion Poll on Major Projects in Far East and Siberia

VLADIVOSTOK. May 26. VOSTOK-MEDIA - Will Russia survive without natural riches of Ural, Siberia and the Russian Far East? How much do Russians know about implementation of the major projects in the Far Eastern Region? The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center has done public opinion research on these issues.
It turned out that almost 46% of Russians (mostly residents of Northwest Federal District) believe that the natural riches of Ural, Siberia and Far East allow the national economy to reach a new level.
Far Easterners are less optimistic: only 42 percent of respondents express their assurance that the country wouldnt do without natural riches of these regions. Besides, only 38 percent of Far Eastern respondents believe that focusing on extraction and export of raw materials will not change our live to the better. 37% of respondents hold to this opinion.
The majority of Russians (80%) know nothing about the large projects that has been launched in Siberia and Far East. 3% have notice of construction of the gas pipe line, gas processing and developing of transportation routes. 2% of respondents are aware of construction of crude oil line and oil production.
