Denis Reva, 31, pleaded guilty on charges of murder-of-hire plot.

VLADIVOSTOK. May 26. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Denis Reva, the 31-year-old son of a Primorye lawmaker, was found guilty Tuesday of organizing murder-for-hire plot by the Primorsky Krai Court.

“Having reviewed the submitted evidentiary materials, the Primorsky Krai Court established that Denis Reva has been involved in the organization of murder out of mercenary motives by finding and hiring accomplices for the crime and intentional creation of conditions to commit the crime. However, the crime has not been carried out owing to circumstances outside the control of this person,” Sergei Ignatenko, a spokesman for the Primorsky Krai Court, told Vostok-Media.

In October 2007, Reva borrowed 10,000,000 rubles ($318,175) from one of his acquaintance for a period of one year. When the debt came due the defendant failed to fulfill his obligations and deferred payment.

Unwilling to pay off his debt, Reva decided to organize the murder of his acquaintance. He offered $15,000 to another acquaintance of his to kill the man whom he owned money.

However, the hired man refused to do the crime and reported to the police.

The police mounted a sting operation together with the man who had reported the plotted crime, during which Reva discussed details of the murder and handed 300,000 rubles ($9,550) to him.

Following the forensic psychiatric expert examination the defendant was found sane and sentenced to 9 years in prison and fined 300,000 rubles.

The sentence has not yet taken effect and the parties may be appealed in Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
