Russian Deputies Called Upon President Medvedev to Recognize Independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia

VLADIVOSTOK. 26 Augus. VOSTOK-MEDIA. At the plenary meeting deputies of Russian Gosudarstvennaya Duma on August, 25th accepted a call note to President Medvedev about necessary recognition of independent South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Document which was voted by 447 deputies (abstained – 0, non voted – 0) shows “unanimous and consolidate” support of “adequate and determined action of the Russian Government, provided defence of South Ossetia from military operation of Georgia” and prevented “unleashing of war on Caucasus including same aggression and genocide against Abkhazia”.
“Military operation of Saakashvili’s regime toward South Ossetia was started against international obligations of Georgia, - says a deputy call note, - this barbaric aggression at once cross lined 15 year diplomatic and peacekeeping actions of the Russian Federation and other countries participating in the UN General Secretary created “group of Georgian friends”, oriented to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Henceforward, possibility to reestablish its integrity by political means is not seemed to exist. This reality has to be admitted by the international community always denying, as well as Russia, coercive way of postconflict regulation.
Appeal of South Ossetia and Abkhazia given through their legitimately elected governments to recognize a status of independent and sovereign republics, deputies think, is “judicially substantiate” and “morally justified”. Recognition, according to Gosudarstvennay Duma, will form “conditions to provide support and defence of nations from external threats, strengthen international peace and regional stability in accord with the UN Charter and start a process of international recognition of South Ossetian and Abkhazian states”. GosDuma asks President to consider recognition by the Russian Federation of the Republics South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent, sovereign and self-dependent states and hold talks with the governments of both republics about “creation of judicial base of interstate relations which provides regulation of all cooperation and support aspects including questions of security”.
