Time Zone Gap between Vladivostok and Moscow to be Bridged?

Gennady Lazarev, president of VSUES, has put forward an initiative to reduce the time difference between Vladivostok and Moscow time zones.

VLADIVOSTOK. October 26. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Gennady Lazarev, president of Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service (VSUES) has put forward an initiative to reduce the difference between Vladivostok and Moscow time zones, reported press-service office of VSUES.

Sharing his views on disadvantages of state management at the current time zones system is Gennady Lazarev, president of VSUES, Doctor of Science, Economics:

Its COB time in Vladivostok when Moscow wakes up. It is very uncomfortable both for our city and for Moscow. The time gap between the extreme points of our country – Kaliningrad and Kamchatka – makes 11 hours. Its pointless to discuss direct communication between these two regions.

Now that the state-run programme on the development of the Russian Far East is under implementation and the demand on flights from one part of the country to another has considerably increased, the question of time zones changes became particularly challenging. The president of VSUES, a Member of Legislative Assembly, proposed to reduce the difference between the time zones from 7 to 4 hours. On October 20, Gennady Lazarev has submitted his proposal for shifting to a new time system to Alexander Latkin, Doctor of Science, Economics, and Vladimir Sozinov, Professor of the Management Faculty, Ph.D. in Economics.

“I’ve thought carefully out the continuous transition to the altered time zones system,” – Gennady Lazarev addressed the main concerns of opponents. “Currently we’re reverting from daylight saving time to standard time and when spring comes we will not shift back to daylight saving time. For the next two years will live using the new time zones system and we will see if it is biologically comfortable and makes economic sense. And on the third year again we will not revert to daylight saving time; see what happens, check the results. And thus the time difference will be reduced from 7 to 4 hours. Nothing prevents a company to start a work day in 8 am or even in 7 or 6 am instead of 9 am. This will prove very useful in easing traffic congestion in the city, because most people will drive to work in different time. “

The last argument of the VSUES president was very convincing and the scientists agreed to submit the proposal for consideration.
