Many of those polled said that to boost employees performance praise should be given in the form of cash bonus.

VLADIVOSTOK. February 27. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A recent survey conducted by Superjob.ru showed that nearly every second Russian citizen (46%) work more effectively when he receive praise and gratitude from management.

According to the respondents, words of encouragement motivate them to work harder and inspire them to take on new challenges. “I’m a workaholic but I need some encouragement from time to time”; “When I’m praised I try to do my work as good as I can”. However, many of those interviewed said that to boost performance of an employee, praise should be in the form of cash bonus. Women need the words of encouragement and praise from the management more than men. Young Russians who are below 23 years of age are in want of such an impetus.

“However, 8% of Russian citizens stated they can’t stand praise and would rather listen to positive criticism then false praise,” s social scientists said. “According to those polled praise makes them feel more relaxed, whereas fair criticism stimulates them to work with maximum performance”. “I’d rather be afraid of criticism than to be praised and feel relaxed,” a respondent said.

Also, the poll revealed that 38 % of the respondents regard their work as the process of self-improvement and they do not need either praise or criticism. They said they like to work hard and would rather try to see their weak and strong points without any criticism or praise from management: “I just like my work and that’s why I do no need somebody’s breathing on my neck”; “A good manager doesn’t criticize or praise you and is objective in his evaluation…”
