Oil extraction in the Bering and neighboring seas may touch life of the Kamchatka ethnic minorities.

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. March 27. VOSTOK MEDIA – The indigenous peoples of Alaska ask organizations of the Russian North indigenous peoples to help in protection of their rights. Extraction of oil and gas on the territories provided for the traditional use of the Alaska indigenous people leads to change of their traditional lifestyle.
The ethno-ecological information centre Lach reports indigenous peoples of the American North try to defend their rights in a court now. Active oil production on Alaska can lead to irreversible consequences in biosphere of the Northeast coast of the peninsula. The coast is traditionally inhabited by the “coastal” Koryak people who live due to fishing.
The Kamchatka Association of Indigenous Peoples and Ethnic Minorities hasn’t yet reacted on the appeal.
