Alexander Khoroshavin Held Meeting with the Sakhalin Koreans in the City of Ansan

YZHNO-SAKHALINSK. August 27. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Alexander Khoroshavin, Governor of the Sakhalin Region on the Russian delegation led by Viktor Ishaev, Presidential Plenipotentiary envoy in the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia flew to the Republic of Korea. The Governor will hold a series of meetings with the ministers of the neighbouring country and representatives of the leading companies.

Yesterday Alexander Khorshavin held a meeting in the city of Ansan with the Sakhalin Koreans, who returned to their historical homeland. About 300 people gathered at the hall where the meeting took place.

At the meeting the Governor told his countrymen about social and economic situation in Sakhalin Region and answered some of their questions. The Sakhalin Koreans asked the head of the region to render assistance in obtaining Russian visas for all wishing to go to Sakhalin. At present, as people say, the visa obtaining procedure is very time-consuming. Last year Russia and the Republic of Korea signed an intergovernmental agreement on simplification of visa regime for citizens of both countries going on short-term trips. The State Duma of the Russian Federation is to ratify this document this year. On the instruction of the Governor a letter expressing the necessity to speed up adoption of this document was sent to the legislative body. Meanwhile those Sakhalin Koreans wishing to visit Sakhalin will be helped by the Regional Committee for International, Foreign Economic and Interregional Relations.

Today the head of the Sakhalin Region has also visited one of the Sakhalin Koreans’ families.

Today Alexander Khoroshavin on the Russian delegation will hold meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Minister of Innovative Economy, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea as well as with the President of STX Group Corporation and President of the Korean International Trade Committee. He will also visit the demonstration center and plant of Samsung Corporation.

The Russian delegation will hold talks on the topics of the interregional co-operation in the areas of commerce, economy as well as cultural and scientific-technical co-operation between the Russian Far East and the Republic of Korea, reported press service office of the regional administration.
