March 28. VOSTOK MEDIA – The PRC government will block all the websites providing cartographic or other geographic information posing a threat to national security.
Eight state structures including the Ministry of External Affairs plan to undertake tough measures to provide the security of China in the Internet, AFP reports.
There are nearly 10000 cartographic websites in the Chinese Internet. The state authorities will close the major part of them as they contain the information not confirmed by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping of China (SBSM).
Min Yi Zhen, SBSM director, says some websites release confidential geographic information that may contain state secrets and thus undermine national security.
“The government will encourage all denouncements on unreliable websites,” he adds.
In the framework of the campaign the websites presenting Taiwan a sovereign state will be closed as well.
