UZHNO-SAKHALINSK. May 28. VOSTOK-MEDIA - Sergey Karepkin, Vice Governor held a business meeting with representatives of Japanese companies involved in laminaria processing. Alexander Mun, head of the Fisheries Department also took part in the meeting.
Russian party is interested in harvesting and guaranteed sales of laminaria and Japanese side is interested in stable supply of high quality products, said Sergey Karepkin. The Vice Governor said that administration of the region had already taken first steps in this direction at the federal level – starting this year, there will be no quota to regulate the harvest of laminaria. Chief delegate of Japan Narita Syongi said that he has been conducting research on Far Eastern laminaria market for almost a decade. Narita Syongi came to conclusion that Sakhalin laminaria is similar to the one that is growing in Japan.
“Sakhalin and Hokkaido should not to comply with each other, but rather to create new manufactures and move to global market with high quality products.” – said Narita Syongi.
He also stated that for the last decade circulation oа laminaria in Hokkaido dropped from 30 thousand tons to 18 thousand tons and the tendency for reduction is steady.
