"Mariachi Fiesta" arrives to Vladivostok

The famous musical band will give a performance in the capitol of Primorskiy Krai

VLADIVOSTOK. May 28. VOSTOK-MEDIA - "Mariachi Fiesta", the famous musical band from California arrives to Vladivostok.One of the most interesting and fast-developing genres of Latin-American musical tradition - "mariachi" will be performed in concert halls of Primorskiy Krai for the first time.The project made possible thanks to co-operation with U.S. consulate-general, administration of Primorskiy Krai and Primorye Philharmonic Hall."Mariachi Fiesta" is going to give two concerts for the general public:on June 3, the orchestra will give a performance in Primorye Philharmonic Hall and on June 4 in Municipal Cultural Center of Nakhodka.In addition,the musicians will perform for orphaned and disabled children and arrange sessions with local musicians on July 2. The concert will be dedicated to Childrens Day."Mariachi Fiestas" press conference will take place in Primorye Philharmonic Hall on June 2, 12:00 noon.

The mariachi genre may be compared in a sense to what is dubbed "chanson" in Russia. Its definition is very vague and the quantity of interpretations depends on musical tastes.But, Like "Russian Chanson", mariachi is rooted deeply in the folk culture, it came into concert halls from the streets of Mexico. Before taking root in renowned venues and musical academy departments, mariachi won over cafes, restaurants and the hearts of millions of tourists with a craving for all things exotic, vibrant and expressive.In USA mariachi is often compared with jazz. Many years ago music of African immigrants intermingled with sociocultural realias of USA and became national music of America. The same is true for Mexican immigrants, whose number in the largest states of USA - California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico - is growing year by year, transform traditions of their ancestors to create new musical forms of mariachi.

Mariachi Fiesta orchestra dircted by Jeff Nevin is an outstanding representative of the genre The consummate musicians are well known in America and Europe not only asperformance of the Mexican folk music but also for their mariachi interpretations of various compositions won a great deal of popularity. They are capable of all genres from classical symphonies to country music and rock hits like Hotel California.

Jeff Nevin is an award-winning classical composer whose works have been performed by the San Diego, Colorado, San Bernardino, La Jolla, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Idaho Falls and Peninsula symphonies as well as the California EAR Unit, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Mariachi Sol de México and many other ensembles.

Also a skilled performer, he is the founder and artistic director of Mariachi Champaña Nevín, principal trumpet in the La Jolla Symphony, a frequent substitute with the Pacific and San Diego Symphonies. Nevin has soloed with the San Diego, Colorado, Aguascalientes, San Bernardino, La Jolla, Jalisco and Idaho Falls Symphonies as well as the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and has performed with artists including Placido Domingo, Charlotte Church, Kenny Loggins, Dave Brubeck, Burt Bacharach, Frank Sinatra Jr., The Moody Blues, Garrison Keillor and Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán.

Nevin studied conducting at the Pierre Monteux School and has conducted the San Diego Symphony, San Bernardino Symphony, Aguascalientes Symphony, La Jolla Symphony and Orquesta de Baja California among other ensembles. His theater credits include music director for the world college premiere of Mariachi Quixote, the first musical with a full mariachi-music score, and music director for the La Jolla Playhouse Spanish and English productions of Lorca’s Blood Wedding.
