Pyongyang Proposed South to Conduct Joint Investigation into Cheonan Sinking

VLADIVOSTOK. June 28. VOSTOK-MEDIA – North Korea has proposed to Seoul Sunday to send a group of experts to conduct joint investigation into the sinking of South Korean corvette Cheonan, Gazeta.ru news website reported.

Fortified by the conclusion of the team of international investigators from Australia, the U.S., and Sweden, South Korea continues to maintain that it was a North Korean torpedo that sunk the warship. Pyongyang has denied its involvement in the sinking of the South Korean ship, which killed 46 sailors. The American-led United Nations Command has carried out a separate investigation which resulted in proposal to North Korea to hold general-level talks on the issue at a meeting of the command’s armistice commission.

“The fact that the investigation has been undertaken by the armistice commission runs counter the common sense since it goes far beyond their mandate,” a North Korean military official sated.
