Sakhalin Resident Faces 15-Year Prison Term for Assault on Japanese Official

A forensic examination showed that the life-threatening bodily injury sustained by Takayuki Nasu in the assault has causes a major damage to his health.

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. December 28. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Sakhalin City Court has passed sentence on Alexander Lebedev, a 19-year-old resident of Sakhalin, who had committed an armed assault on the head of Japan Center in Sakhalin Takayuki Nasu.


Being intoxicated, A. Lebedev, who had a previous criminal conviction, had stabbed the Japanese official Takayuki Nasu in a stairwell of a house in Karl Marx Street on Dec. 9 last year.


During the accident, the 67-year-old head of Japan Center in Sakhalin was seriously wounded in the abdomen. Also, the criminal stole his wallet containing the ID and visa. The wounded man was immediately brought to Sapporo, Japan, for treatment.


A forensic examination showed that the life-threatening bodily injury sustained by Takayuki Nasu in the assault has causes a major damage to his life.


The investigation found out that A. Lebedev was involved in two cell-phone thefts and an armed assault on a Sakhalin resident. The cases were combined in one proceeding.


The accused person was pleaded guilty and sentenced to 15 years prison term.


The sentence has not yet taken legal effect and an appeal can now be made to the regional court, Sakhalin Court Justice Department reports.
