VLADIVOSTOK. March 29. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A solemn torch lighting ceremony was held at the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near Kremlin wall.

A Vladivostok delegation had arrived to Moscow to take part in the ceremony held on the occasion of the 65-th Anniversary of the Great Victory. The delegation has taken the torch with the sacred fire over to their city to light the Vladivostok Eternal Flame at the Pacific Fleet War Glory Memorial on the eve of the Great Victory Day, May 7, 2010.

This solemn ceremony concluded the program of the Vladivostok delegation’s visit to Moscow, whicg was organized at the initiative of the Moscow city Council of Veterans with the assistance of the Mayor of Vladivostok Igor Pushkaryov. The delegation returned to Vladivostok on Sunday, March 28, a spokesman for Vladivostok Administration reported.

The Vladivostok delegation included veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Lev Abramov and Viktor Gladushevsky, Deputy Head of Vladivostok Administration Konstantin Mezhnov, Deputy of the Vladivostok City Duma Lyudmila Talabayeva, Chairman of Saturn veterans’ organization Viktor Nadezhin, Sacristan of Svyato-Nikolsky Cathedral in Vladivostok Father Viktor, officer at Youth Affairs Department Olga Butakova.

Prior to the torch lighting ceremony, the delegation visited Solnechnogorsk and Volokolamsk - cities located near Moscow, where during the WWII Pacific Navy mariners defended the Russian capital. The WWII veterans laid flowers and wreaths to the monuments to naval mariners. They took sacred soil from the mass graves and put it in special capsules, which will be handed over to the best school museums of Vladivostok. One of the capsules will be sealed in the wall of the Pacific Fleet Glory Memorial during a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War.

The delegation from Vladivostok was sent to Moscow as part of the military-patriotic initiative Memory. Veterans from Vladivostok met with their fellow veterans from Moscow, visited WWII battle sites and talked about the old days. “We are happy that we got such an opportunity to take a memorial trip to Moscow, meet with veterans, pay tribute to the memory of our countrymen, who were killed in the war,” says Lev Abramov, a WWII veteran. It was very impressing to light the torch at the eternal flame at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier. For us, veterans, this is a very important ceremony. The flame reminds us how hard it was to win the war, about our friends who fought and died in the war. It is symbolic that the torch will light the Vladivostok Eternal Flame. I’m confident all veterans will be grateful for it.”
