The Russians Began to Talk Less on the Cell Phone
Service providers increased prices on roaming and sms-messages and reconsidered call cost
VLADIVOSTOK. March 31. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Russian subscribers use less cellular communication in the period of crisis. The net profit of ‘Sonic Duo’ company, operating under the trade mark ‘Megaphon-Moscow’, shrank by 13,4 % in fourth quarter of 2008.
The subscribers of ‘Megaphon-Moscow’ avoid using of expensive services, such as roaming and long distance calls. The duration of usual calls reduced only by several minutes a month.
Meanwhile the subscribers of MTS were talking in fourth quarter by 2.3 % more than the third one. They started to change tariffs for cheaper ones. And the operator cut the average price for one minute of talk from 1.3 rubles to 1.18.
The operators started to respond to diminution in demand in the winter 2009. they raised prices on roaming and also reconsidered call costs in some of the regular tariffs. Sms-messages and ‘favorite number’ optional service also became more expensive. MTS, ‘Megaphon’ and ‘Beeline’ have already launched anti-crisis tariffs, in which call cost decreases significantly after several minutes of connection. ‘Megafon-Moscow’ has also launched a tariff called ‘just for converse’ that allows the subscribers that use the tariff to talk to each other just for 5 kopecs a minute.
