Vladivostok Fortress Celebration

VLADIVOSTOK. 31 October. VOSTOK- MEDIA. In the 1980s this fortress was a dump and since 1996 this has been a public museum, the only one in the register of the best museums of Russia. Today, Vladivostok Fortress is celebrating its “birthday”. 12 years ago a nameless battery witnessed a hoist of the Russian fortress flag.
By this day, a 12th flag has been sewn. This is a “birthday” present.
In the 1980s the Vladivostok Fortress was a dump. Unique weapons and military trophies lay in the piles of garbage. Afterwards, authorities tried to build a house for the Krai Communist Party elite but fortress was defended and a decision to create a museum was taken.
October, 30, 1996 Vladivostok Fortress was listed in the Russian register of the best museums. Now, this fortress is the unique museum which is visited by tourists and officials. At the exhibition stands really rare things are shown: guns to protect fortress made in the beginning of the XX century which were taken while a campaign in China in 1900.
Today, museum exists due to tourist visiting. In the fortress three casemates are in use, other three casemates and two grounds could not have been saved. Last year a new building was constructed against the law about place of federal importance. A part of Fortress history is lost for ever.
