British Analysts: Medvedev Will Fail Improving Russia’s Image

VLADIVOSTOK. 14 November. VOSTOK-MEDIA. The Financial Times published an article which says that Russia is still considered as a common player at the international arena. British periodical reminds that Dmitri Medvedev is going to speak on important issues at the meeting Russia-EU and G20 in Washington. In Nice Russian leader, Mr Medvedev, and President of France, Nicolas Sarcosy, will discuss security in Europe. Russian plan includes proposals to change the current security system which was created after the WWII and includes NATO and OSCE.
In Washington Medvedev wants to propose several initiatives. Russian President in his State National Address says about changes in current world financial system and financial monopoly, implying the USA. Though, Medvedev has already made proposals earlier but got no supporters in Europe, says the British periodical.
Mr Medvedev’s proposals undermine Russia’s claim to be one of the centres of financial stability given the drop of quotations at the Moscow Stock Exchange and decision of the Russian Government to let Russian ruble fall. Russia is financially unstable because of the financial crisis in the U.S.
British newspaper says that Mr Medvedev’s reaction on victory of Barack Obama was wrong: instead of congratulating Barack Obama and hoping to build good friendship of two countries, Mr Medvedev declared to launch a rocket system “Iskander” in Kaliningradskaya oblast.
Mr Medvedev and Mr Putin, former Russian leader and currently Vice-President, ask for respect at the international arena. The fact is that Russia is not an overriding issue for president-elect B. Obama. Salient issues for the new American leaders will be tackling financial crisis and end the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. American president is not known to think deeply about Russia’s concerns. And it has nothing to do with respect to Russia, it is just reality to consider.
