VLADIVOSTOK. May 17. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Freight One, Russia’s largest rail transport operator, has commenced deliveries of metal structures for the construction of the longest cable bridge in the world. The bridge is scheduled to be built across the Eastern Bosphorus strait, to serve the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which will take place in Vladivostok in 2012. The bridge will connect the mainland with Russky Island.
A Freight One spokesman told Vostok-Media in March the company has already delivered 14 flat-cars of metal structures produced by Ulan-Udestalmost to Nakhodka. In April 9 flat-cars of construction cargo were shipped.
“In May we intend to reach a planned capacity of 40 flat-cars a month,” Head of Irkutsk Branch of Freight One said. “The agreement with Ulan-Udestalmost provides for timely cargo deliveries up until the bridge is constructed.”
The bridge is slated to be opened in March 2012, six months before the APEC Russia 2012 summit begins. The total length of the bridge will be 3.1 km. The 1,104-meter-long central span will set a world record.
