VLADIVOSTOK. June 24. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The 4th Pacific Economic Congress takes place on June 2nd to 3rd in Vladivostok.
A highly topical program of the congress includes talks on pressing issues of the Russian Far East, such as Russia’s strategy for the future activity in the Asia-Pacific Region, expanding international cooperation, and the key trends of the country development including Russia’s vision for its activity in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
Discussion sections of the congress will focus on problems of transport infrastructure development in the Russian Far East, Vladivostok landscape improvement as education and tourism center, and formation of the investment and financial infrastructure. This year’s congress in unlike the previous forums in that it has completely different scope of topics: the congress program will include the discussion of issues of the Far Eastern Federal University, the construction of which began in 2009 by the order of Dmitry Medvedev.
The invitation of one of the leading experts in Russia’s education policy - Andrei Volkov, the rector of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, to chair the plenary session was motivated by the fact that the priority is given to the questions of science and education. As an adviser to the Minister of Education and Science, Volkov led a panel of G8 experts on Russian education initiatives and participated in the development of higher education overhaul program in Russia.
The construction of the Far Eastern Federal University, which will also serve APEC Russia 2012, is well underway on Russky Island. However, the university under construction requires special attention from science and education experts since this is a very unique project. What makes this university stand out among other existing higher education institutions in the Russian Far East is the application of the newest technologies: the university is considered not only as a learning institution but also as a venue for development of science and technology policy clusters in the Russian Far East, which requires a viable interaction between science and education.
The discussion session of the Congress titled “The Far Eastern Federal University. Prospects for Establishing Hi-Tech Centers in the Russian Far East” will focus primarily on these issues. The session will be moderated by Andrei Volkov. The leading experts at Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science, researchers at Academy of National Economy under the Government of Russian Federation, representatives of School of International and Diplomatic Affairs of Shanghai International Studies University and other universities, as well as the Far Eastern academic community, are expected to take part in the discussion session.
MOST Construction Company and Vnesheconombank are the official partners of the congress.
