Chinese Barrels with Chemicals Washed down Sungari River

VLADIVOSTOK. July 29. VOSTOK-MEDIA – More than a thousand barrels with chemicals have been washed by flood waters down the Sungari River – the right tributary of Amur River in Jilin province, Xinhua news agency cited Chinese authorities as saying.

The spill occurred at Yongji County, Jilin, this Wednesday.

The barrels, owned by a local chemical plant, contained a total of 160 tons of liquid flammable explosive chemicals.

At present, emergency response teams are trying to fish out the barrels, while the local environmental service is monitoring closely the water quality in the river.
