First Snow-Fall in Magadan Region

MAGADAN. August 25. VOSTOK-MEDIA – In Magadan Region, 14 cm of snow fell overnight at the place with a beautiful name Jack London Lake.

This is one of the most beautiful and exotic lakes of the Russian Far East. The 10-km long and 2-km wide lake is situated at a height of 800 meters above sea level and filled with crystal clear blue water. There are several islands within the lake and there is an operating weather station on one of the islands.

The Jack London Lake was not the only place in Verkhnyaya Kolyma, which was covered with snow. The noticeable but short-living snow cover was brought about by the effect of the cold front, escalated by the replacement of the moist Pacific air by the cold Arctic air.

Moreover the fallen snow was followed by the first winter frost. So, early in the morning on August 25, air temperature in the northeast part of Yakutia was -11°, reported Vostok-Media as referred to Gismeteo.
